April 2007

Dear FRIENDS of the Home Textile Tool Museum,

It has been two years since you have received a Friends of HTTM" letter. Many exciting things have taken place at HTTM, from expanding the display and workshop areas due to the renovation/restoration of the Threshing Barn, to electrical upgrades and restoring the stone foundation of the Federal Home and increasing attendance. This was made possible by you and all the Friends of the museum. HTTM and I thank you. There is still much to be done to ensure the integrity and perpetuation of HTTM. For this reason, as Friends Coordinator, I am reaching out for your continued support as HTTM embarks on their next phase of development.

A major restoration project is planned for HTTM. Work will begin in 2008 and completed in 2010. Three areas will be addressed; the exterior of the house, the first floor and the second floor of the Federal Home.

On the exterior of the house all rotted/damaged areas of the siding, beams and trim will be removed and replaced. The front portico stoop will be reconstructed and even the original fluted columns will be restored and installed.  Cooper gutters and eaves will be added to protect all the improvements from rain damage. And of course the entire exterior will be painted.

Inside renovation and restoration to the first floor parlor, dining room and hall will repair damaged plaster on walls and ceiling, and include Federal period wall paper and paint. Two rooms on sec floor will also have plaster removed/repaired on the walls and the ceiling then painted. All the rooms and the stairs will have the floors sanded and refinished to their original beauty. Missing balusters to the stairs will be replicated and installed. In addition part of the second floor will house the Textile Research Library. The Library will be furnished with shelves, tables, chairs and lighting.

The projected cost of this phase is $80,000.00. A matching grant has been applied for to defray the cost. This requires that HTTM raise one half, $40,000.00, o the amount applied for. HTTM needs our (Friends of HTTM) help as they endeavor to raise their portion of the grant.

When working toward a single goal, there are no small contributions, as they all become part of the larger goal. Many small parts will become a lasting legacy, preservation and perpetuation of home textile tools and techniques. You can mail your donation to:
